State Representative Daniel Cooper to Receive SC Inc.'s Second Annual Business Legislator of the Year Award
NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Media Contact: Dana Todd dwtodd2@aol.com State Representative Daniel Cooper to Receive SC Inc.'s Second Annual Business Legislator of the Year Award COLUMBIA, SC -- March 31, 2008 -- The South Carolina Coalition for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SC Inc.) has chosen Representative Daniel T. Cooper from District 10 in Anderson County to receive its second annual South Carolina Small Business Legislator of the Year Award. The award will be presented at the legislative reception of the Fifth Annual Salute to Small Business event to be held April 1 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. "Representative Cooper has been a consistent supporter of small business for many years," said Haidee Stith, chairman of SC, Inc. "As a small business person himself, he recognizes the importance of small business in the South Carolina economy. We recognize him for his diligence and steadfast support." Representative Cooper is a partner in Capstone Insurance Services, LLC, in Greenville. Under his leadership, the company has experienced dramatic growth, increasing from four to 20 employees. Additionally, Cooper serves in various capacities that directly impact small businesses statewide. Serving in the S.C. House of Representatives since 1991, Cooper also is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, vice chairman of the S.C. Joint Bond Review Committee, a member of the Southern Small Business Association, and a member of the Budget and Control Board. Previously, he was vice chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee. Cooper sponsored the Small Business Health Insurance Act, the Endowed Chairs for Universities and Technical Colleges initiative, and South Carolina film industry incentives. Cooper has assisted with legislation specifically impacting small businesses, including venture capital funding, South Carolina property tax relief, and much more. He is heavily involved in the community, recently speaking to the Palmetto Institute Forum, the S.C. Chamber of Commerce, and the S.C. Washington Night as well as various other groups throughout the state. "As a small business owner myself, I understand the value of small business and its economic and social impact on South Carolina," said Representative Cooper. "I will always do what I can to protect those that own and operate small businesses and appreciate their contribution to South Carolina." The Small Business Legislator of the Year is selected based on a set of established criteria focused on assistance provided to state small businesses, including legislation support and voting record, as well as leadership qualities and community involvement. The Fifth Annual Salute to Small Business Event is sponsored by the South Carolina Coalition for Small Business & Entrepreneurship and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
