Rep. Dan Cooper Elected to Anderson University Board of Trustees
South Carolina legislator Dan Cooper has been elected to serve on the Anderson University Board of Trustees. Cooper has represented District 10 of Anderson County in the S.C. House since 1990. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, a position he has held since 2005. In his role as Ways and Means Chairman, Cooper manages the House version of the state budget and serves as a member of the State Budget and Control Board. Cooper was nominated as a trustee by Anderson University President Dr. Evans P. Whitaker and was elected by members of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. In his five-year term as a trustee, Cooper will help direct the university in all areas including budgeting, new construction projects, curriculum changes, and new degree programs. Anderson University is a comprehensive institution affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, offering bachelor's and master's degrees. "We are delighted to have someone of Chairman Cooper's stature serving on our Board of Trustees," says Whitaker. "Not only is he an active Baptist layman who serves in his local church, but in his capacity as a key legislator, he has always been a strong supporter of all levels of education in South Carolina, including both private and public higher education. As an Anderson University alumnus and recipient of an honorary doctorate from our institution, he has extensive knowledge of the University and he will be an excellent trustee." "This is a terrific opportunity to support Anderson University and higher education in South Carolina, which is critical to our state's future," Cooper says. "I am humbled, honored, and excited to get to work."
