Charleston Regional Business Journal: Wilkins legislative award dinner to honor Upstate lawmaker

The fifth annual David H. Wilkins Legislative Award Dinner, scheduled for Jan. 11 in Columbia, will honor Upstate lawmaker Rep. Dan Cooper (pictured) and will feature a national journalist as the keynote speaker.

Ambassador David H. Wilkins, former Gov. Richard Riley and Furman President David Shi will host the dinner, which has been held since 2005 to honor Wilkins' contributions to legislative activity in the state of South Carolina.

The Riley Institute at Furman University established the David Wilkins Award for Excellence in Legislative Leadership in South Carolina and presents it each year to a state lawmaker who is deemed to best embody the highest principles of leadership based on integrity, civility and courage.

The keynote speaker this year will be journalist Judy Woodruff, who has covered politics and other news for PBS, NBC and CNN.

A reception will be held at 6 p.m. and the dinner and award presentation will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Tickets are $125 per person; a one-year sponsorship, including a table for eight at the dinner and recognition in the program, is available for $2,500.
